Turkey claim second Group A win over Bulgaria at EuroBasket


Turkey beat Bulgaria 101-87 on Saturday to taste their second win at EuroBasket 2022.

Turkey led 31-29 at the end of the first quarter but Bulgaria got off to a good start in the second half, taking a 23-19 lead.

The Turkish side put on an emphatic performance late in the third quarter, producing 25 points at the Georgian capital’s Tbilisi Arena. This quarter ended 75-71 in favor of Turkey while Bulgaria scored 19 points.

In the fourth period, Ergin Ataman’s team controlled the game for the rest of the time to claim a 101-87 victory.

Five players signed up in double figures for the winning team.

Cleveland Cavaliers star Cedi Osman was his team’s top scorer, playing with 25 points and eight rebounds.

Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun had 20 points and nine rebounds, while Shane Larkin had 13 points and nine assists.

Bugrahan Tuncer and Sehmus Hazer were Türkiye’s other double-digit scorers with 10 points each.

Aleksandar Vezenkov and Dee Bost scored a double-double for the Bulgarian national team.

Vezenkov finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds, while Bost produced 12 points and 13 assists.

On Thursday, Turkey beat Montenegro 72-68 in the Group A opener.

Turkey face off in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, where they will face Georgia, Belgium and Spain in the first stage of the tournament, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the finals in Berlin. Group A meetings
